Long ago, or so they tell us, there was once a man who trained his body to the brink of death. War between his country, a land full of men who used nothing but the martial arts learned from their forefathers, and the rivaling country, one who used secret techniques in order to create powerful metal tools to cut down their foes, were in great disharmony. Countless lives were being ended due constant confrontation to the point where both countries were forced to come together for a final solution. The decison of this council was that each country would choose one warrior as representation and the winner would decide the fate of the nations. Ryou Yuudai was the man chosen for the men of fists. Atemi Hagane was the man chosen for the men of metals.

Naturally, everyone's safe bet was on Atemi as he was a man of metals. In single combat the iron warriors had always bested the unarmed defenders, sheer numbers alone allowing for battlefields to even out. Ryou too was convinced as he made his way home from the council that day with head in hands. The beautiful woman of which he intended to marry, Kazumi met him at the door, face in worry as she knew what was to happen. Her to be husband was ill-fated and would be forced into combat as the champion of a land full of the weak. For him she wept for days and prayed to the gods that they have mercy on his soul upon his crossing into new life.

The tears splashed onto the floor and into the heart of Goshoudakara, an idle godess. Through her, the motivation to strengthen himself came into the heart of Ryou and so he sought out to train every day until his body stopped for the days that remained before the wartime finale. However, after days of falling due to intense methods and death defying training regime, one day he did not rise to return home. Instead he fell and could not stand as the world around him faded, turning black in just a few moments. The warm touch of Kazumi was what filled his mind, a smile trickled onto his face in slow twitches before his eyes were to make their final rest. Happiness found him in death.

Suddenly it was clear that happiness was only the first thing to find his heart before his crossing as a soft glow radiated in the darkness. His eyes were closed, yet at the same time he could still see it, hovering over him. From which direction it came he was unsure, but the glow that followed the limb of light was absolutely blinding and joyous for reasons unknown to the man. Death was far more confusing as he assumed, or that was as it seemed in the least. However this wasn't death reaching out to touch him, this was life. Mercy moved her light into his chest as Goshoudakara softly touched his heart. Suddenly, inside of himself his skin burned white hot, yet it caused him no pain. His veins pumped much more than just a life source through his body and eyes shot open. There was no time to rest as the fight was the next day.

The two fought and Ryou was somehow able to manifest the will he received from the goddess into his combat, using his life force as a weapon far stronger than Atemi had ever possessed. Fire, water, air, earth and lightning. The world itself seemed to be lending the underdog a hand as he commanded all elements at once, a most fearsome site for a man wielding nothing but what seemed like a shiny stick in comparison. Naturally, Ryou won in the name of the fighters. So his decision was the one to be chosen. As the goddess of mercy was now part of him, the natural choice arose in his mind: both nations would remain as two and enter peace time.

Kazumi birthed five children for the fathering Ryou. As he was treated as a new King, they were treated as royalty as well. And for each of them, he made five great lands within his country. His eldest son was deemed Honoo, and to him the Land of Fire was named after his quick temper. To his second son, Arashi, the Land of Lightning was formed due to his constant tenacity. His third child was a daughter, his only daughter whom he loved very much. Kyuchu was her decided name and to her gift would be a place called the Land of Wind. This was the most barren land, though Ryou knew that her sweet smile would act as a cool breeze to the people in the hot desert. His fourth child was another boy with a much larger build than the rest. Renga would grow to inherit the land of Earth as his father constantly teased that he could likely lift the whole thing if he tried. To his last son, Taikai, the Land of Water was granted due to his mellow and easygoing personality. He acted like the water itself.

Each of these children possessed what Ryou called chakra. This was the will that the goddess had allowed him and her gift to all mankind. Mercy. Each of these children passed it on to their fellow man as well, teaching all they could before their time came to join their father, mother and Goshoudakara along with all who too possessed this chakra. Over time, even the men of metal began to learn as well, though using it a bit differently. The men within the rival land who used metals became known as Samurai . Those opposite were known as Shinboi. Since then, no tensions have arisen. Four generations of leaders, or Kage, have passed within each of the Lands in the Country of Shinobi. As for relations between each other, there is none. The lands have been strangers to each other since the second generation of Kage. All communication has been sealed off until recently, for unknown reasons.

The gates are now open and shinobi and samurai alike are free to roam with one another, most not even knowing the hatred prior generations felt towards each other. This free period has been happening for a year now, and everything seems to be going quite well. However, suddenly the Hokage, leader of the Hidden Leaf Village in the Land of Fire has fallen mysteriously ill after encounters with the Mizukage, leader of the Hidden mist Village of the Land of Water. While nothing has been confirmed, suspicion indeed has been arising from amidst the citizens. As for the Hokage, he lies comatose in his bed, waiting for an explanation to find a cure.
